Overview
Raising Families is a child-development app from the Kean University Department of Occupational Therapy – a “developmental home” that helps parents support their young children. We designed, built, and launched it as a fully functioning web app, complete with accounts, OAuth, and profiles – and made the entire thing manageable from a single Google Sheet, where the team can edit not just content but interface details like button text and icons, without ever touching code.
The challenge
Raising Families needed a complete, fully functioning web app – designed, built, and launched on a very tight timeline. Beyond moving fast, the team behind it – university faculty and students, not engineers – needed to keep the app’s content fresh on their own: milestones, activities, resources, and the daily Q&A all had to be editable without a developer in the loop.
What we built
We moved fast: within 48 hours we had designed and gotten approval on 10 finished screens, and a reviewable build of the app within the first week. The app supports account creation, OAuth sign-in, and user profiles, with a home feed featuring a daily “Development Dilemma” answered by a therapist, milestones and activities organized by age, and a resource library. The key idea was the content layer: we wired the entire app to a Google Sheet acting as a simple CMS, so every piece of content – and even interface details like button text and icons – can be changed from one spreadsheet, no code required.
The outcome
Raising Families launched a polished, fully functioning app the Kean OT team can run entirely themselves. Parents get a developmental home for their young child – daily guidance, age-based milestones, and resources – while the team behind it can update any of it, from an article to a button label, just by editing a Google Sheet.
